Beatrix Potter

The young Beatrix Potter sits alone in her bedroom, drawing sketches animals. As she begins to daydream, the animals come to life... First of all we see Tom Thumb and Hunca Munca, two naughty mice who find a table full of food and fill their bellies with gusto.

Next we see a group of squirrels paddling across a pond to harvest nuts - but one of them, Squirrel Nutkin, has his mind on mischief. Mrs Tiggywinkle races across the fields with her basket of laundry and poor Jemima Puddleduck - well, a rather foxy gentleman has his eye on her.

Mr Jeremy Fisher is flexing his froggy legs in the fishpond, and Pigling Bland is off to market; on the way he encounters the delightful Pigwig, and they dance a moonlit pas de deux and exchange a little kiss. Mrs Tittlemouse and the other mice then dance a waltz, but a cat is lurking and hoping to pounce. Danger is finally swept away by the rabbits - lead by Peter - who tumble in and bring the daydream to an end.

Les Patineurs

Les Patineurs was inspired by the graceful movements and show stopping skills of ice-skaters, set to the music of Meyerbeer. Ashton's choreography illustrates the seemingly effortless moves of the skaters as they glide, turn - and even fall over! This ballet has been a popular favourite since its first appearance in 1937 and is unmissable for its virtuosity and spectacular spinning Blue Skater.
