The Story of Pinocchio

Geppetto, a poor woodcarver, wants a son more than anything, so he is overjoyed when the Blue Fairy makes the puppet Pinocchio walk and talk like a real boy. Pinocchio, however, is easily distracted and on his way to school he stops to watch a puppet show. The puppetmaster Stromboli wants Pinocchio to join the act, so he gives him some money - but Pinocchio refuses and continues on his way. Stromboli sends the wily cat and fox to retrieve the money, and they rob Pinocchio.

Meanwhile Geppetto is worried and sets off by boat to find his son. He is caught in a storm, and when Pinocchio finds the boat wreckage he thinks that his father is dead. He is very sad and returns to school, where he is distracted by his schoolmate Lampwick, who tells him about the Land of Toys. The two set off to find it in Stromboli’s cart, but Stromboli plies them with drink and turns them into donkeys. The boys realise they have been taken to a glue factory, and are in fact destined for the big glue pot.

Pinocchio manages to escape, and in his ensuing adventures he manages to be swallowed by a whale. When he gets into the whale's stomach, he realises that Geppetto has been swallowed too. Together they devise a plan to make the whale sneeze and they are thrown onto the beach. Geppetto appears to be dead - and Pinocchio realises that his bad behaviour is the cause. He is distraught. But the Blue Fairy reappears to make everything better - and Geppetto awakes to find that Pinocchio is now his heart’s desire, a real boy.
